Juvenile--Sub-Adult Eagles

Where I live we have had great luck in recent years, and the area is rich with young eagles. I love watching and photographing them, as (since food is plentiful) they frequently practice their hunting and fighting in groups of up to five or six birds. It can take five years for an eagle to acquire adult plumage, and in that time much variety in coloration can be seen. Generally, more white underneath points to youth, while white moving towards the head and the back of the tail can point to a a three- or four-year-old eagle. I just love that rich brown color juvie eagles sport. I occasionally run into people talking about seeing golden eagles, but they are very rare in my area of Ohio. I know these people are seeing juvies.
